Thursday 7/May/2009Al Habib began the day with Fajr at South Granville musallah followed by the daily Fajr lesson. Today was promising to be a busy day. Having achieved familiarity with the Muslim community of Sydney, today’s aim was to extend Al Habib’s presence to the wider Sydney coummunity and his representation as an internationally respectable scholar and Da’aee with a message to all humankind. He visited Redfern for an exchange of words, ideas and cultures with Sydney's aboriginal community elders. He was briefed about the history of aboriginal Australia, white-man's settlement and the more recent events of the white Australia policy. Islam and its traces dating back to aboriginal time and the concept of attachment to the land and ecological sustainability were addressed. Al Habib received a warm exchange and was told he was welcome to visit aboriginal land in the future. Al Habib was then kindly hosted by The Hon Virginia Judge at the MLC centre. Interfaith leaders, members of Consulates, ministers and members of the Muslim community attended an address by Al Habib titled The Ethics of Governance and Islam. The Community Relations Commission was thanked for its continued support of a multicultural Australia and its commitment to interfaith harmony. Al Habib Umar's talk centered around the united call of humanity, interfaith dialogue and the many prosperous examples of Muslims living in a multicultural society and an Islamic society that allowed interfaith to prosper under its wings/governance. At The University of Technology Sydney, a packed out central lecture hall resulted in the urgent need of valuable Tour Organisers to set up a projector and screen in the outside thorough way to accommodate for the flood of students, tutors and lectures who either planned to attend his talk or were overwhelmed by his speech whilst stopping to inspect and listen to his address. Our spiritual goals in life was the subject. With such a void present in all our lives, al Habib provided guidance and suggested acts and remembrance of our existence and creator. The question and answer session was a representation of its importance with over fifty questions remaining unanswered at the end of the event due to time restrictions. BBC's world news journalist then interviewed al Habib Umar. Questions centered about the purpose of his trip to Australia, matters pertaining to Islamic representation internationally and some possible causes for the global financial crises. Following the daily purification discussion and counsel, Al Habib was hosted by Sheik Taj at Lakemba Mosque for a traditional Mawlid. This was the second community event of the Tour. As this was a filmed event, we shall leave its details for you to view on the DVD inshallah. It suffices to say that Sheikh Taj saw this as a great uniting gathering and that he would love to see it re-occurring monthly event. Photos:
